In the 1970s, while Zig Kanstul was running the Benge factory for King, he perfected the design of the highly-regarded Benge pocket trumpet.
After establishing Kanstul Musical Instruments in 1981, Zig began building instruments for the Boosey & Hawkes company’s Besson brand, including these diminuative horns. Along the way, the famed jazz trumpeter Don Cherry, renowned for performing on pocket trumpets, became an official Besson artist, and was presented with his own Besson pocket trumpet, built by Kanstul. Now offered as the Kanstul Model 905 Pocket Trumpet, this horn sports a compact size but without sacrificing the rich sound, oustanding intonation and quick response of our full-size professional trumpets, and is considered by many pros as the best pocket trumpet made.
The Model 905 Pocket Trumpet has a medium large .460 bore, and can be ordered with the one-piece, hand-hammered bell of the player’s choice, including the compact 5X (shown), or a full-size 4-7/8” or 5” bell.
