On the Saturday of the 2018 NAMM Show, the Wallace Roney Quintet put on a performance at the Kanstul factory that blew the capacity crowd away. The quintet—Wallace on trumpet, Emilio Modeste on tenor sax, Curtis Lundy on bass, Oscar Williams on keyboard, and Kojo Roney on drums—poured it on through a range of incredible numbers.
In a moving demonstration of art of brassmaking coming full-circle with the music it’s made for, Wallace played on his Kanstul Model 1603+ “Committee” trumpet—in the exact spot where the horn was built. Earlier during their stay in Anaheim for the NAMM show and the concert, Wallace and the band were given an in-depth tour of the Kanstul factory.
Having recently returned from performances in Beijing, the group now heads north for appearances in the Bay Area.
The show was covered by Downbeat Magazine and the media crew from the City of Anaheim.
Special thanks to Wallace’s road manager, Landton Malone, for his work in making this happen. Also, huge gratitude goes out to the Citrus College Stage, Sound and Lighting team, under the direction of Gino Munoz. Their professional work gave the concert the sound engineering and visual presentation it deserved.
This concert follows last year’s musical tribute to Zig Kanstul, also an incredible event held live at the factory. With the success of both of these shows, we will be looking to stage more in the future. Stay tuned!
