Last week, top studio trombonist Alan Kaplan stopped by the factory with his Model 1570-B convertible trombone, and he was happy to talk about what he likes about the instrument. Custom-built for Alan by Zig Kanstul, the horn features a removable F attachment with a Thayer valve, and sees heavy use in film score recording, which, as Alan explains, is increasingly calling for larger-bore trombones. For this demanding studio work the 1570-B delivers incredible responsiveness and versatility. Alan’s 1570-B is finished in a striking brushed lacquer.
Days later, Alan was at the Sony Pictures scoring stage, beginning recording for Pixar’s upcoming release of The Incredibles 2. See the trailer here.
We are now adding the Model 1570-B to our line of world-class trombones, which also features Alan’s other go-to horn, the Model 1602-B “Kaplan” tenor trombone. For more information on these instruments, call the factory at (714) 563-1000, or email sales@kanstul.com.
